Fit for a Brit {Nigel Slater's Sausages and Mustard}

I Heart Cooking Clubs is featuring the recipes of Nigel Slater for the next 6 months.  This week our theme is "Fit for a Brit."

I'm not on the up and up with British cuisine, but sausages (think bangers and mash) and mustard (think Coleman's) seem to be on the list.

So when I found Nigel Slater's Sausages & Mustard on the BBC website (click for recipe), I said "well, why not?"

It didn't hurt that this is a pasta dish.  With a creamy sauce.  And that I could use one of my favorite things on earth...Zatarain's Creole Mustard.

See...this creamy sauce has not one, but TWO types of mustard.  Dijon and grainy mustard.

I used the hell out of both because I love mustard.

Notes:  This dish was ok.  I made a huge mistake overdoing things because I couldn't control my mustard greed.  Then I tried to tighten my sauce by adding a couple of tablespoons of Parmesan.  Result = salt city.

I will try this again the right way.  I'm sure it will be very good.

  1. Hi Michelle,
You made me smile with "salt-city"! I know just what you mean, I sometimes overdo it with my favourite ingredient too! I'm sure this dish is delicious, and I love mustard too, however will take note of 'over-doing" it!

  2. It's not a dish for us (we don't eat meat/chicken with dairy) but you cracked me up - "Result = salt city."
    Heheheheh|

Have a great weekend and thanks for making me laugh :)

  3. I looked at this dish also ... a creamy mustard sauce over pasta appealed ... add some pork and that's a topper! It's on my 'to make' list! Interestingly, the glaze on the bangers that I made had a lemon mustard thing going on too ... add some honey though.

  4. If you put a potato in your dish I think it absorbs excesssalt. I think I read that somewhere but it may only apply to soup.
Looks great and I too love mustard....mmmm

  5. Too much mustard--say it isn't so!?! ;-) It certainly looks delicious though, and certainly worth another try with more mustard 'restraint.' ;-)

  6. Mustard and sausages are such a great combination, I'm sure the dish will be as delicious as it looks with just a little less salt.

  7. Salt city, what a bummer. I prefer grainy mustard and my husband Dijon, great to use both

  8. Pasta, sausages and creamy mustard sauce - sounds fabulous. So sorry you were disappointed in this one, but it definitely sounds like it's one to persevere with.
