See Ya in the Gumbo #70 (potluck)

See ya in the gumbo!

My great grandpa said this instead of "good-bye."  It means see ya out there in the mix.

Gumbo is a mix of various ingredients.  And no two people make it the same way.

To "make a gumbo" means much more than cooking.  When someone says "I'm making a gumbo," it means family and friends are invited.

I invite you to join this POTLUCK PARTY every Sunday night.

Bring whatever mix of ingredients you'd like.

Ms. enPlace

Pary Moppins nominated me for a Liebster Award.  I want to thank her for thinking of me and for the sweet description she wrote about my blog.

The rules are:

* Tell 11 random things about yourself
* Answer the 11 questions the nominator has asked you
* Nominate 11 other bloggers and make sure you notify them

I've been sick for over a week (trying to get healthy in time for Mardi Gras), so I hope the blog award gods don't mind a little skimping.

Random things:
1.  The word random is difficult for me.  I always need a plan.
2.  Since we're on the subject of random...random people always walk up to me in stores and ask me questions.  Most recently it was, "Do you know what dry stuffing is?"  She pulled out her recipe and everything.
3. People think I'm really sweet and nice.  But cross me and I'll "pass you a pair of eyes" like nobody's business.
4. I have about 3 bottles of shampoo going at one time because I think my hair "gets tired" of the same one day in and day out.  Other people do this too, right?
5. When my brothers and I were little we loved when my dad took the screens off of the windows to clean them. One of us would go inside and stand at the window while the other two rode bikes up to it.  "Drive Thru Window at McDonald's" was one of our favorite games!
6. I dislike getting out of a warm bed so much that if I wake up in the middle of the night and need to pee, I will actually debate getting up and rationalize that I can hold it.
7. I have very little cartilage left in my knees (from years of running and from spectacular genetics).  As a result, if you were to follow me up a staircase you would be able to hear my knees make all sorts of interesting noises.
8. I like frogs and turtles.
9. Because I never could get the hang of balancing, I never learned how to ride a bike.  I jogged around the neighborhood instead.  (See #7)

Questions:
1. Favorite book?  A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest J. Gaines, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman, Purple Cane Road by James Lee Burke (I can't follow rules)

2. Cats or Dogs?  Dogs.

3. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?  In 10 years I'll be almost 50.  So let's just move on to question #4...

4. What is your favorite form of social networking?  Blogging.  FB and Twitter are so in your face all the time--requiring that you check in or miss something.

5. What are you most excited about in 2013?  Finishing the (faux) cobblestone path in the backyard.  (Yes, I have high-reaching goals.)

6. Favorite holiday?  Halloween.  I've always liked Halloween since I was a small child.

7. Coffee or Tea?  Coffee.  Are you new here?

8. What do you do in your spare time?  Depends on when, where, time of year, etc.  Ranges from gardening, fishing, hiking, reading.

9. Any weird habits?  Of course not.  Everything I do is perfectly sane and normal.

10. What's your favorite smell?  Coffee or the smell of onions, bell pepper, and garlic hitting hot roux.

11. How many siblings do you have?  2--both are brothers.

Bogs I'm nominating:
Soup Spice Everything Nice: Denise makes some seriously good food!  And she's a Louisiana girl like me.

RV Life & Food: Terry is super nice.  Her and her husband live in their RV and I am always amazed at the dishes she whips up in an RV kitchen.  Terry makes her away around the food blogging community every week, leaving friendly comments wherever she goes.

My Turn (for us): The "rules" for a Liebster Award state that a blog must have fewer than 300 followers.  Evelyn has slightly more.  She has been blogging for a little over a year but has done more in that year than many bloggers do in 4, networking and building readership.  She is one of the most supportive, encouraging bloggers I've met.

Winterpast Cooking: Luanne's blog is relatively new for me.  I was immediately drawn to her quirky sense of humor.   Her posts will make you laugh.

Memories by the Mile: Wanda Ann and her husband spend a lot of time on the road and have seen a lot of places.  A little over a month ago, Wanda Ann started a weekly State Trivia series that includes a "Where you Live and Play” linky party.  A different state is featured every Tuesday.  You should check it out.

I Thee Cook: Rina's blog is another new-to-me blog.  Every time I visit, I find myself pinning or sharing her recipes on Google +.  I'm also jealous of I also like her photography skills.

Feeding Big...and More: Cynthia is an incredibly generous blogger.  She is active on Google +, promoting posts from other bloggers.  She also promotes other bloggers in her "Around the World in 80 Sundays" feature.  Recently, Cynthia featured me.  I appreciate her kindness!
