Disclaimer: of course "unusual" is relative. What I find unusual may be status quo for you. I think, though, that these smoothies will hold a few surprises for some.
Healthy Smoothie from Emily
Just about every ingredient Emily adds to the base of this smoothie is out of the box.
I met Emily through her Tasteful Tuesday party. The title of her blog made me laugh since my son stopped napping at 9 months. Emily's blog is filled with clever crafts like this Whale Bank and healthy recipes like Greek Layer Dip and Baked Chicken Pesto Sandwiches. Emily gets a lot done during nap time.
Spinach is the unusual ingredient in this smoothie.
You don't have to wait until St. Patrick's Day to try it.

Evelyn has a wide variety of recipes on her blog, ranging from Mexican like Chile Relleno Casserole (this is the recipe that first drew me in), Texas BBQ and smoked meats like Texas Brisket, and healthier versions of not so healthy classics like Zucchini Lasagna. You'll find something you'll like...and Evelyn will make you smile. She's super sweet.
This 2 or 3 ingredient smoothie has an unusual ingredient. Hint: it's not the berries.
Jan has a weekly menu planning post that lives up to her blog's name. She creates her menus based on what she has. A smart, frugal tip. When I first blended the ingredients for

Now it seems at least once a week I see a smoothie containing oatmeal. It makes for a very filling smoothie and adds extra fiber.
I really like adding cinnamon--it pairs with the oatmeal to give almost a granola flavor.

Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie
Makes 2 servings
about 1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
pinch of cinnamon
1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
Combine the milk, oats, and cinnamon in a blender. Blend to break down the oats. Add the yogurt and berries. Blend until smooth. Blend in more milk if smoothie is too thick.

ReplyDeleteFor me blueberries in a smoothie is unusual. We really don't use blueberries much as we only have them frozen. But it's definitely something I'd like to try.
But spinach in a smoothie?? That's weird
I love the idea of a smoothie roundup. I think all of the smoothies look terrific. I've been wanting to try a green monster smoothie with the spinach in it for ages, but just never get around to it. I know they have to be good at the rate I keep seeing them pop up.
